At the start of the electoral campaign for the presidential elections, VEsinFiltro recorded the blocking of the Cazadores de Fake News and Espaja websites.

“The Cazadores de Fake News website was blocked by the operators Cantv, Digitel and Inter. According to the monitoring and analysis of measurements made by VEsinFiltro, the restrictions began on July 4,” they said.

According to the report, in the case of Cantv, a DNS + https type block is maintained, while Digitel Movistar, Net Uno and Inter, a DNS type block. VEsinFiltro recalled that Cazadores de Fake News is an organization that analyzes and verifies news related to Venezuela, spread through social networks and instant messaging.

In recent days, several media outlets in the country have also reported that the son-in-law of the presidential candidate of the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, was under investigation for drug trafficking in the United States. The NGO Cazadores de Fake News stated on July 3 that the information is false.

In the case of Espaja.com, it was stated that the blocking on Thursday was through Cantv, Digitel and Movistar: “Our teams are working to determine the scope and types of blockages applied to our site.”

“A pattern of censorship and restrictions on civic space – which previously included dozens of censored media outlets – now directly affects Espaja.com, a portal dedicated to verification and potentially false information. The restriction on access to our portal in Venezuela coincides with the start of the electoral campaign for the presidential elections on July 28, and in response to which this portal has been carrying out exhaustive work to dismantle disinformation through checks and verifications, in addition to our Electoral Radar.”

Espaja documented that during the pre-election campaign period in Venezuela there were a total of 82 disinformation content regarding the candidates and the electoral process.
