SAN ANTONIO – A hurricane watch was issued for the Texas coast on Friday, the National Hurricane Center reported in its 4:00 p.m. bulletin.

A watch indicates that conditions are favorable for a hurricane, as Beryl has currently been downgraded to a tropical storm.

The National Hurricane Center said there is an increasing risk of damaging hurricane-force winds threatening portions of northeastern Mexico and the lower and mid-Texas coast on Sunday and Monday.

The latest bulletin warned that further changes are anticipated, so additional monitoring may be required late Friday or early Saturday.

Additionally, flash flooding is possible in East Texas from Sunday through the middle of next week.
