Guatemala City, Jul 5 (AGN).- The Government reaffirmed its support for the head of the Ministry of Public Finance, Jonathan Menkos, who is under attack for alleged anti-corruption investigations ordered by the Attorney General, Consuelo Porras.

He President Bernardo Arevalo ratified the Government’s support for Minister Menkos and deplored the illegal and unfounded attacks by Consuelo Porras and those who seek to maintain corruption and impunity in Guatemala.

Minister Menkos, for his part, reported that he filed an appeal before the Supreme Court of Justice against the Attorney General’s Office for a series of intimidating and illegal actions that are pushed against them.

He said that the MP, with Consuelo Porras at the head, has carried out a series of acts that constitute a continuing grievance against the head of the Minfin and which violate his right to defense, right to preliminary trial, due process and the presumption of innocence.

In the face of abuses by MP staff, Minister Menkos has resorted to constitutional means to seek the restoration of fundamental rights who assist him, and in order that the Attorney General, Porras, be ordered, that all criminal prosecution in the exercise of office cease.
