The courts have decided to extend the confidentiality of the case in the disappearance of Loan Danilo Peña, the five-year-old boy who disappeared 22 days ago in Corrientes. The measure was taken after a search of the house of former official María Victoria Caillava and her husband, Carlos Pérez, located 200 meters from the house of Loan’s grandmother.

This raid is the second in less than 24 hours, with officers focusing on a shed on the property. As investigations intensify, Loan’s aunt, Laudelina Peña, has been charged and is testifying before prosecutors, facing the possibility of arrest.

Excavations were carried out at the cemetery throughout the day as part of the search for Loan, who disappeared on June 13. The investigation continues to turn up suspicions and new leads, with officers again raiding the residence of Caillava and Perez.

Recent statements and developments

Camila, Loan’s cousin, testified for five hours before the prosecution, assuring that there was no accident, as Laudelina Peña had suggested. Camila presented a map showing the route taken on the day of the disappearance, stating that if there had been an accident, she would have found him herself.

Camila’s statement has cast doubt on the version of the accident. She said she saw other children, but never Loan, and stressed that there was no crying or screaming from the child. She also recalled a suspicious moment when Caillava joked about her husband’s presence at a lunch, even though he had cancelled a trip scheduled for that day.

Miguel Ángel Pierri, the new defense attorney for Walter Maciel, who is accused of concealment, said that Maciel wants to tell his version to the courts and considers himself innocent. Pierri criticized the way the investigation has been conducted, suggesting that the family’s inner circle was not adequately investigated.

Technology used in research

In the recent raid on Caillava and Perez’s home, federal forces used high-resolution ground-penetrating radar that transmits electromagnetic waves to detect earth movements and buried objects, such as pipes, conduits and, potentially, bodies.

Extension of confidentiality of summary proceedings

Judge Pozzer Penzo ordered that the secrecy of the case be extended until Monday, July 15, limiting the access of Laudelina Peña’s lawyers to the pages of the case, except for the information necessary for her defense.

The community remains vigilant and expectant of each new development in the search for Loan Danilo Peña, hoping that justice can soon clarify the whereabouts of the child.
