The National Police dismantled a gang of alleged extortionists in the Chongón sector.

The four people arrested, three of them isolated because they are minors, are said to have handed out pamphlets demanding money from owners of businesses in that area of ​​Guayaquil.

The leaflets also asked Chongón residents to avoid going out at certain times.

Police Major Santiago Sandoval, head of Operations for the Ceibos district, said that these four people are linked to cases of extortion and attacks reported in recent weeks in Chongón.

One of the latest attacks took place early Saturday morning. Explosives were placed on the façade of a shop located at the entrance to the parish church, along with a pamphlet requesting a large sum of money.

The men are believed to be part of the Los Fatales organized crime group, police said.

The arrest of the four people took place at 10:00 this Saturday, July 6.

The police were able to locate the four citizens through videos and references from people in Chongón.

Sandoval said that two motorcycles, two firearms and doses of controlled substances were seized as evidence.
