The governor of La Guajira, Jairo Aguilar Deluque, responded to President Petro on his own account, after the national leader launched a harsh criticism of the mayors of the Caribbean coast of the Colombian territory. Where he points out the municipal administrators of the Caribbean for the high energy rates, they seem to be on the payrolls of the energy companies that operate in these regions.

“I am glad that the president is addressing the issue of electricity rates in the Colombian Caribbean. Here we pay for electricity or eat. In addition, the service provided by Air-e is terrible,” said the mayor of La Guajira.

He also added that “the solution is in the hands of the National Government, either by lowering rates or by transferring the shares they have in public energy generating companies so that differential participation can be granted to the department of La Guajira and with this, make social investments in alternative energies and provide subsidies to users.”

He also highlighted that La Guajira has sun and wind, which make it the perfect setting for the operation of projects that will greatly benefit the population and the environment. He also noted that the governors of the Caribbean Region are fully prepared to work together and bring relief to the region.
