Unlike the flu, which is a “seasonal virus,” the SARS-CoV-2 virus rebounds with socialization

Carmen Álvarez, an expert professor in immunology at the International University of La Rioja (UNIR), has pointed out how the virus that causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19), SARS-CoV-2, is “a very social virus, it likes socializing a lot.”

In an interview with Europa Press, this expert explained the current resurgence of Covid-19, in the middle of summer, to the fact that “it was never a seasonal virus.”

Thus, unlike the flu virus, which is “clearly seasonal” and “disappears” when the temperature rises, the virus causing Covid-19 did not behave in this way in laboratory tests, in which it “resisted temperatures well.”

Thus, “It is during times of greatest socialization that it rebounds”” and the summer holidays are one of these moments, just like Christmas, when, however, it goes more “unnoticed because

cohabits with other respiratory viruses.”

In response to this, he pointed out how “the pandemic must have served us for something,” and we already know that “the measures” to stop the spread “are easy,” that is, wearing a mask when we have symptoms and not approaching vulnerable people, as well as ventilating spaces.

In the latter variant, coughing is one of the main symptoms. “In addition, it is a cough that, even when the antigen test is low, continues to persist for two or three weeks,” he said.

Fever, muscle pain and fatigue are also “more obvious”, along with others such as loss of smell and taste. In addition, there is diarrhea.

These symptoms are “very similar to the flu,” so “the easiest thing to do is to get a test.” In addition, “in summer it is difficult to get the flu,” so “if a cold appears with these symptoms, it is more likely to be Covid than the flu.”
