Hong Myung-bo takes charge of South Korea’s national team again

South Korean Hong Myung-bo will return to coach the South Korean national football team, five months after the dismissal of German Jürgen Klinsmann, the South Korean Football Federation told AFP on Sunday.

“We have signed Hong as the next national team coach,” a KFA spokesman told AFP, without giving further details about his contract.

Hong Myung-bo, 55, is back in charge of the national team he had already managed during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, after which he resigned following the team’s poor performance.

As a player, he was one of the standout members of the historic South Korea team that reached the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup, the only time that an Asian team has reached that stage in World Cup history.
