Colombian paramilitaries insist on providing more information about assassination in Venezuela

They revealed a plan by the right to infiltrate them in Venezuela, assassinate Nicolás Maduro and generate violence.

The Colombian paramilitary group called Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra-ACSN issued a statement on Saturday to the presidents of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, regarding their revelation that sectors of the Venezuelan right contacted them to attack him and destabilize his country.

Through the communication, the armed group’s General Staff expressed interest in both heads of state “knowing firsthand the situation that arose with groups from the neighboring country that sought our influence to alter the democratic system” of Venezuela.

He considered that this is “an event of great significance for the two territories, whose border we share without any interference in the plans of the neighboring country.” Therefore, he asked Petro “to adopt the pertinent measures so that the Venezuelan authorities can have a direct dialogue with our organization, to give them the information and thus initiate the respective judicial actions.”

He added that they were aware of President Nicolás Maduro’s statement regarding the information they revealed. We have a moral obligation to deliver it to him for the purposes he deems necessary, he said.

On the other hand, he reiterated that “this act of peace is based on respect for the electoral processes and democracy in Venezuela, so that real peace can be built and violence can stop for the good of the people we protect and of the neighbors, who also have the right to self-determination.”

In its message, the paramilitary group reaffirmed its “will for peace, convinced that building it is the only way to achieve the desires for prosperity and tranquility that we owe to the communities.”

On Friday, President Nicolás Maduro denounced that this attempt to assassinate him, hatched by the extremist right, involves introducing 1,000 paramilitaries from Colombia in the context of the presidential elections on July 28.

He pointed out that the purpose of the campaign is to provoke violence in the border states, attack the electric service and create the sensation of a civil war in the country when they (the right) shout “fraud” during the election day.

After denouncing this plan, Maduro Moros asked the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, to carry out the relevant investigations. On Friday night, the Public Prosecutor’s Office appointed the 83rd National Prosecutor’s Office to investigate and punish this threat of assassination.
