“The war in Gaza has lasted more than nine months, I don’t know if it is fair to call it a war because it is not.” These are the words of Kayed Hammad, a Gazan who is surviving Israeli attacks on what was once his homeland.

Kayed never wanted to flee or abandon his home, a 12-story building that no longer exists, but the attacks made him lose his home… and all the ones he has owned since: “In these nine months we have changed houses 15 times…we stayed in one house for a week, in another for a day…”

“We have come to eat barley, wheat, corn from animals,” he adds about the circumstances in which he has to feed himself.

When the war started there were 8 people in his family And he has managed to keep almost all of them alive: “I have learned in this war that the biggest risk is not taking any risks.” “At least we have had the chance to keep six people and we have lost two,” he adds.

One of them was lost due to the lack of hospitals, while her son Kayed was lost in a bombing: “On May 24th, my oldest son, aged 24, was killed in a bombing.“.

Despite the pain and the situation, Kayed has learned to enjoy the small moments of happiness to maintain hope during a war that has lasted nine months.
