Governor Axel Kicillof hopes to create a corporation for the Capital Region that would bring together the mayors of La Plata and neighboring districts. Julio Alak from La Plata and his peers Mario Secco (Ensenada) and Fabián Cagliardi (Berisso) are the ones pushing the project. The strong political fact is that they managed to add the also Peronist mayors of Brandsen (Fernando Raitelli), Leonardo Angueira (Punta Indio) and the radical from Magdalena, Lisandro Hourcade.

Kicillof opened the doors of the Governor’s Office to these mayors. He received them together with the Minister of Government, Carlos Bianco, who will be the coordinator of the future corporation. Kicillof has been pushing this issue and found some echo during the government of Alberto Fernández. But that push was frozen with the assumption of Javier Milei. Those who promote this work maintain that it would optimize logistics costs, reduce navigation times and avoid loads having to necessarily pass through Uruguayan ports.

At the meeting with the Governor, each mayor brought his own project under his arm. The idea of the mayors is to develop a development plan for the Region in parallel.

Universities and various business sectors will therefore be invited to contribute their ideas. Yesterday, the possibility of this study being financed by the Federal Investment Council was analysed. Bianco agreed to take charge of these negotiations.

Although it was not the central topic of debate, there is the idea that these districts begin to work on a sort of electoral unity.
