A Florida man faces an aggravated robbery charge after trying to withdraw 1 cent from a Sumter County bank, according to The New York PostSumter County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavits say the incident happened shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday at Chase Bank on US-441 in Lady Lake.

The man, identified as Michael Fleming, walked into the bank, filled out a withdrawal slip for 1 cent and handed it to a teller. The teller allegedly told Fleming he couldn’t withdraw a single cent.

“So what else do you want me to say?” Fleming told the bank teller, according to the arrest report. The affidavit did not provide further details about their conversation, but officers said Teller feared possible violence and called police.

When officers arrived, Fleming was still inside the bank and was taken into custody, the affidavit states. He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, where he agreed to speak with officers after being read his Miranda Rights.

Although details of that conversation were redacted from the report, officers said they had probable cause to believe Fleming violated Florida’s theft statute, according to the affidavit.

The 41-year-old man was then taken to the Sumter County Detention Center, where he remains on $5,000 bail as of Tuesday afternoon, according to online jail records.
