A ceremony to mark the 87th anniversary of the start of China’s nation-wide war of resistance against Japanese aggression was held in Beijing on Sunday.

Yin Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, presided over the ceremony at the Museum of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression near Lugou Bridge, where the historic “Lugou Bridge Incident” took place 87 years ago.

On July 7, 1937, Japanese soldiers attacked Chinese forces at Lugou Bridge, marking the beginning of Japan’s large-scale invasion of China and the entire Chinese nation’s resistance against the Japanese invaders.

At 9:00 a.m., the ceremony began with the playing of China’s national anthem. Students from Beijing recited poems and sang songs to express the younger generation’s determination to carry forward the spirit of heroes and martyrs, promote China’s modernization, and contribute to building a strong nation and national rejuvenation.

Participants laid wreaths and bowed to pay their respects to those who sacrificed their lives in the fight against Japanese aggression.

The event was attended by about 500 people, including war veterans and family members of military officers in the war.
