  • The organization will contribute its experience and good practices consolidated in more than 55 years of working with children and youth without parental care or at risk of losing it in our country.
  • The Global Care Alliance seeks to promote and strengthen quality care systems and ensure access to them for all people, especially those in vulnerable situations.

Madrid, July 8, 2024. SOS Children’s Villages has announced its accession to the Global Alliance for Care, thus reinforcing its commitment to the well-being of children and young people who grow up without parental care or are at risk of losing it. The organization that provides direct care to children will contribute its experience and good practices accumulated over more than half a century of work in our country.

The Global Care Alliance is an initiative that emerged within the framework of the Generation Equality Forum in 2021 to promote affordable and high-quality care globally. Its ultimate goal is to build care societies based on co-responsibility and ensure that people’s well-being is at the heart of social policies and actions.

With the addition of SOS Children’s Villages, the Alliance will benefit from the organisation’s experience in providing direct care to children and young people in vulnerable situations, especially those who grow up separated from their parents, promoting their development and autonomy through placement in protective family environments and strengthening their family, social and community networks.

SOS Children’s Villages also has a long history of offering initial, ongoing and strategic training to its professionals and the families it works with, in order to improve its work, prevent risk situations and promote psychosocial skills that promote the comprehensive well-being of children and adolescents.

Childhood at the centre of care

Through its Equality Plan, SOS Children’s Villages carries out various initiatives, such as training people on leave or leave for care, raising awareness about gender issues, developing projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and political advocacy actions aimed at improving the living conditions of children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it.

“This collaboration will allow us to strengthen our commitment to child protection and work together, putting children and young people at the centre of care, with a gender focus and leaving no one behind,” said SOS Children’s Villages Advocacy Director Nadia Garrido.

The Global Alliance for Care is the first global multi-stakeholder community that facilitates and fosters spaces for collective action, advocacy, communication and learning about care, as well as its recognition as a need, a job and a right. It works to implement inclusive public policies, support caregivers and those receiving care, as well as to promote gender equality and foster international cooperation, ensuring access to high-quality and affordable care services for all people. It is a joint effort between governments, civil society, trade associations, the private sector, philanthropy, international organizations and academia with a view to advancing the care agenda from the local to the global level.

SOS Children’s Villages’ membership in the Global Care Partnership is a significant step towards building a more equitable and just future, in which the care and protection of the most vulnerable is a priority.
