The congresswoman of Popular Renewal, Miracles Jauregui de Aguayo, introduced a bill to raise the age of sexual consent in Peru from 14 to 16 years.

To this end, the aim is to amend Article 173 of the Penal Code, which refers to the sexual violation of a minor, to add that if the victim is between 14 and 16 years old, “he or she will be punished with a prison sentence of no less than fourteen and no more than twenty years.” It also hopes to amend Article 175, on sexual violation by deception, to read as follows:

“Anyone who, through deception, has carnal access via vaginal, anal or oral means or performs any other analogous act with the introduction of an object or part of the body via any of the first two means, to a person aged sixteen and under eighteen years shall be punished with a prison sentence of no less than six and no more than nine years.”

Milagros Jáuregui seeks to eliminate inclusive language from school texts.

According to the conservative legislator, this way teenagers will understand that they should not rush into starting their sexual life and will avoid teenage pregnancies or early sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, she says that the Ministry of Health will reduce the psychological treatments given to minors who began having sex without being prepared for it.

In addition, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI)births to mothers aged 10 to 14 increased by 12.7% in 2022 compared to 2021.

Consequently, the feminist organization Flora Tristan The Spanish authorities expressed their disagreement with the ruling because it would limit access to ESI, meaning that young people would be deprived of information that is crucial for their health and well-being.
