An event shook the tranquility of the Chimila II neighborhood, in the northeast of Santa Marta, on Sunday morning.

An elderly man, identified as Edgar Serna Pabón, affectionately known as ‘Careto’ among family and friends, died from a self-inflicted head wound.

According to testimonies from residents of the area, neighbors tried to persuade Serna Pabón not to carry out his tragic decision. However, the man responded by firing several shots at the ground, dissuading those who tried to approach him. Minutes later, he shot himself in the head, dying instantly.

Some people at the scene tried to help him and take him to a medical center, but they quickly realized that there was nothing they could do to save his life. Sources reported that Serna Pabón had been drinking alcohol on Saturday night until early Sunday morning, in the company of several acquaintances.

The Technical Investigation Corps of the Prosecutor’s Office went to the scene to inspect and remove the body, which was later transferred to the morgue of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Santa Marta.
