In the framework of the commemoration of the International Day of Religious Freedom, the Secretariat of Social and Political Development presented to the Municipal Council its program of cooperation with the religious sector. This project aims to strengthen the collaboration between the Municipal Administration and religious organizations, to benefit vulnerable populations, such as homeless people and the elderly.

“It is a great challenge that we have with the different religious institutions. This sector is fundamental in the construction of the social fabric, we want to take advantage of all the experience that religious organizations have with the social work they have been doing, to empower them more, to strengthen them and to aim to improve all social problems,” said Martha Cecilia Alzate, Secretary of Social and Political Development.

Angeline Sandoval, councilor for the Mira party, said that “it is a very valuable proposal made by the Secretariat of Social Development, since the religious sector always supports the improvement of vulnerable populations. This union between the Municipal Administration and the sector is important, because it will benefit a larger population.”

For the formulation of the program, the aim is to reach a municipal agreement and articulate the project with the public policy of Religious Freedom, under Agreement 6 of 2023. Likewise, for its implementation, a bank of social initiatives will be created where religious organizations will be able to present their projects.

“With the cooperation program we will be able to strengthen the work that has been carried out by faith-based organizations. The social fabric that religious entities are recovering will finally be visible. In this sector, they will always find a helping hand for mental health and for social problems in general,” said Jhon Jairo Acosta, departmental liaison for religious freedom and worship.
