The university team Fórmula Gades, the first team of the University of Cadiz, has presented its new car (the fifth since its creation), called G24. It will go directly to the Formula Student Austria competitions this July and to the Formula Student Spain in Montmeló (Barcelona) in August.

The Vice-Chancellor for Students at the UCA, Nuria Campos, together with the President of the Student Council, Miguel Ángel Pérez, accompanied them to this event at the Jerez circuit, where the team is working in the pit provided by this municipal facility and one of its main sponsors.

Samuel Utrera, Miguel Muzás and Francisco Sánchez, accompanied by all members of the management team, in addition to presenting the car, have detailed the new additions and improvements made to the car and the advances in the national and international competition tables.

In turn, they have shown through several videos the different and “very tough” phases that the team faces in each stage and against the most important international teams, such as Cal Poly Pomona Formula SAE, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (USA); Monash Motorsport, Monash University (Australia); PG Racing Team, Gdansk University of Technology (Poland); as well as the Spanish teams: FSUPV Team, Universitat Politécnica de Valéncia (Valencia) and MAD Formula Team, Universidad Carlos III (Madrid); or the German FH-Dortmund Race-Ing, Dortmund School of Engineering and the Swiss KA-Race Ing Electric, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the AMZ Racing Team, ETH Zurich University.

Last January, the team completed the annual tests to access the different competitions, facing a test, connected to a single server in real time, against all the teams in the world that were looking to obtain a place and compete. In this edition, the Cadiz team passed all the tests, obtaining direct access to the different competitions: Formula Student (FS) East Hungary; FS Czech Czech Republic; FS Netherlands, Holland; FS Alpe Adria Croatia; FS Portugal; FS Austria; and FS Spain; although they have finally decided to compete in the RedBull RING, on the Spielberg circuit in Austria and on the Montmeló circuit in Barcelona.

To finance part of the competitions they will be attending this year, they have launched a crowdfunding campaign, thanks to which they have raised 2,500 euros, although they hope to reach the target of 4,500 euros in the coming weeks.

Formula Student is a competition held annually throughout the world to promote excellence; it allows students (engineers) to practice all the knowledge acquired, simulating a real situation, in which the team must work as a company. The racing car must have good driving characteristics in acceleration, braking and stability, it must be easy to maintain, at a reasonable cost and with a high degree of reliability.

THE NEW SINGLE-SEATER

The main improvements of the G24 compared to the G22evo (previous car) are a complete aerodynamic package, which improves cornering. Regarding the chassis, the weight has been reduced by 10 kilos. In electronics, a real-time telemetry system has been implemented, where the car’s data is displayed on a mobile application designed by the team.

As for the suspension section, a Push distribution has been changed, which improves the car’s abilities on the track; and finally, in the engine section, the aim has been to find the best performance, changing both the intake and exhaust and also removing various parts such as the alternator, thus achieving a weight reduction of around 7 kilos.

Both the design and manufacturing work on the car have been carried out with a view to the various European competitions that will take place in the summer months, according to the statement sent to DIARIO Bahía de Cádiz.

In this edition, Fórmula Gades has acknowledged the support received from the Rectorate of the University of Cadiz; the Social Council of the UCA; the School of Engineering; the Student Council (CEUCA); FabLa; the departments of Systems Engineering and Manufacturing Processes, respectively; the Andalusian Federation of Motorsports; the Official College of Industrial Engineers of Western Andalusia; the companies Xergetia; Sapsa; Macpherson; Verinsur; DSA; Taller Ramírez y Gómez; and Autoescuela Gabriel, among others.
