South Korean tech giant Samsung said Tuesday that its production has not been affected by the three-day general strike by thousands of workers in South Korea.

More than 5,000 members of Samsung Electronics’ national union walked off the job on Monday, the organization said, as part of a battle to demand better pay and benefits.

The union has more than 30,000 members, more than a fifth of the company’s total workforce.

“There has been no interruption in production,” Samsung was quoted as saying by South Korean media.

But according to Park Seol, a union leader, production is being affected.

“But more importantly, the company needs to understand that we are not just trying to disrupt their production line, we want them to hear our voice and understand how desperate we are,” he said Tuesday.

The union has been negotiating since January but has not reached an agreement and has rejected an offer of a 5.1% pay rise.

Samsung Electronics is one of the largest phone manufacturers in the world and also one of the only companies that produces high-end chips used for artificial intelligence.
