Air Pollution Warning in the Bay Area – Telemundo Bay Area 48

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued an air pollution alert Tuesday.

The alert will be in effect Wednesday due to high temperatures expected to reach 100 degrees, combined with light sea breezes and smog generated by cars across the region.

Authorities explained that such measures are taken when ozone pollution is predicted to reach levels harmful to health.

Ozone can cause throat irritation, congestion, and chest pain. It can trigger asthma, inflame the lining of the lungs, and worsen bronchitis and emphysema. Prolonged exposure can reduce lung function.

This situation is particularly harmful for young children, the elderly, and people with respiratory and heart diseases.
