Watching movies and series via streaming is an activity that many people enjoy at home or on their mobile devices. But have you ever thought about how much money you would spend if you subscribed to the most popular apps today? We have the figures.

At this moment there are seven services that are leading the market: Netflix, Max, Primer Video, Disney+, Paramount+, Apple TV+ y CrunchyrollWhile there are other platforms available, these are the ones that dominate the market and are available in Latin America.

To get the final price, we took into account the price in dollars of the highest subscription level, since most have different types of payment, depending on the benefits and options that the user wants. For this exercise we chose the most expensive of each and in this way we evaluated what the final price would be per month and per year.

The first thing we are going to look at is how much the most expensive subscription of each of the platforms costs. This value may vary in each country and that is why we take the reference in dollars. These are the costs currently:

  • Netflix – Plan Premium:
  • Monthly price: $22.99
  • Annual price: $275.88
  • Max – Ad-Free Plan:
  • Monthly price: $15.99
  • Annual price: $191.88
  • Disney+ – Ad-Free Plan:

  • Annual price: $131.88

  • Annual Price: $99.99
  • Paramount+ – Ad-Free Plan:
  • Monthly price: $5.99
  • Annual price: $71.88
  • Apple TV+:

Considering these figures, we realize several things. First of all, Netflix is the most expensive service and Apple TV+ is the cheapest. with a difference of 18 dollars.

Also, we must keep in mind that in the case of Netflix, Prime Video and Crunchyroll is not only paying to watch movies and series, but we also receive other benefits such as access to video games, discounts on Amazon and the ability to save in the cloud.

With all this panorama clear, The sum of all these services would be $84.27 per month, meaning that on average we would be paying $12 per month for each platform. This price represents 20% of the average minimum wage in Latin America, which is $407.66.

If we look at the annual value, the figures for each platform would be as follows:

  • Netflix: $275.88
  • HBO Max: $191.88
  • Disney+: $131.88
  • Prime Video: $139.00
  • Crunchyroll: $99.99
  • Paramount+: $71.88
  • Apple TV+: $59,88

This means that users would spend $970.39 per year to have a subscription to the seven most popular streaming platforms currently. This value represents 19.8% of the annual minimum wage in Latin America, which averages $4,891.

Considering the average expense, which represents 20% of the monthly salary, the investment is quite high, since the cost of living in the region implies paying other obligations and few could have the financial peace of mind to do so.

However, if you have this option, you have to consider other variables to determine whether or not it is worth it. The first is time. With seven applications available, the catalog of productions is extensive and there are many options to see, so it would be an overwhelming amount of content that you will not get the most out of month after month.

Another important aspect is the quality and interest in the productions on each platform, since many have repeated films and not all of them are aimed at the general public. For example, Crunchyroll is great for those who like anime and Disney+ has a big focus on kids and sports audiences.

If you can’t afford to pay for all of them at once, it’s best to choose one or up to three options that fit your monthly budget and provide enough variety of content to have something to choose from every time you want to watch something different.
