Before shopping, Guatemalans tend to shop around first to see where they can get their food at an affordable price. However, in recent days the situation has been more difficult due to the rise in prices for basic basket products that has impacted the markets in particular.

For this reason, the team of Direct Impact He visited a market and a supermarket and compared the prices of products such as tomatoes, onions, beans, lettuce. He also saw how many products could be obtained with the amount of Q100.

The comparison shows that, despite the high price, Q70 was spent at the market and most of the products were obtained, except for the guicoy sazón, which is the most expensive product, with a price of Q60. In the supermarket, most of the products were also obtained at a total price of Q75.88.

Regarding why supermarkets have more affordable prices, members of the Guatemalan Chamber of Food and Beverages say that it may be due to the purchasing method, while producers indicate that there is usually stability between farmers and supermarkets.

*Impacto Directo is an informative program that is broadcast on Guatevisión, Monday to Friday at 6 p.m.
