Windcat has placed an order for another Commissioning Operations Vessel (CSOV) for the transfer of personnel at sea, completing the series of six Elevation Series vessels, which will be deployed to provide on-site technical and maintenance support to offshore wind farms for up to 30 days at a time.

Damen will build the sixth CSOV at the shipyard Ha Long, in Vietnam, where the first of the five ships is currently being developed in several stages and is due to be delivered early next year.

“Working with CMB.TECH to develop the hydrogen component of this vessel, turning a new technology into a proven technology, is a milestone for the industry. And of course, we appreciate working with Windcat to make the entire series of six vessels effective – the fact that Windcat has ordered this sixth vessel demonstrates their clear vision,” said the company. “Together with Damen, we have also spent a lot of time thinking about the workflow on board for offshore wind farm technicians; how they can get from point A to point B as efficiently as possible, both for operational efficiency and safety,” said the director. director general of Windcat, Willem Van Der Wel.

The final design is for an 87-metre long vessel with capacity for 120 people. Based on input from CMB.TECH, as well as lessons learned from the hydrogen-powered crew transfer vessel Windcat, The unit will be equipped with dual-fuel hydrogen technology.
