El Chino Darín is all the rage on Netflix for his best film based on real events

The night of 12 years won the Goya Award for Best Adapted Screenplay (Álvaro Brechner) and was nominated in two more categories: Best Supporting Actor (Antonio de la Torre) and Best Ibero-American Film. What is “The 12 Year Old Night” about?

The night of 12 years is set in Uruguay in 1973, during the military dictatorship. The plot begins when one autumn night, nine Tupamaros prisoners are taken from their cells in a secret military operation.

The order was precise: “Since we couldn’t kill them, we’re going to drive them crazy”. Thus, for more than a decade, prisoners remained isolated in tiny cells where they spent most of their time hooded, tied, silent, and deprived of their basic needs. They barely fed them.
