toy story It is without a doubt the quintessential Pixar saga for any fan of animated films. This is demonstrated by the rating pages, which classify the franchise as the best of all time with deliveries with very high scores, as is the case with the original sequel. However, We must not forget that the saga was almost ruined by human error.

Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull retired in 2019 after the release of Toy Story 4, explaining in his book Creativity, Inc. what it was like the incident that almost caused Toy Story 2 to disappear forever. It took place in the winter before the film’s release, when the animators were working hard to bring the toys to life.

During production, An anonymous employee accidentally entered a code into the computer system that quickly deleted all content from a specific location. As it can happen, human error led to entering the code in the root folder, which led to deleting all work. “First, Woody’s hat disappeared. Then his boots. Then it disappeared completely. Entire sequences (poof!) were removed from the disk,” he recalls in the book whose contents are collected by Collider.

This is how Toy Story 2 was recovered

As the film was in full production, all Pixar workers saw their jobs disappear…although there was a miraculous salvation. Galyn Susman, the sequel’s supervising technical director, had given birth months earlier and was working from home, so he had a database on his own computerwhich soon moved to the Pixar offices to begin the recovery process.

If the baby had not been born or if Galyn had not been able to telework, Toy Story 2 would not have seen the light of day in the form in which we know it. It would have arrived at a later date, it would have had different sequences and it could even have had another plot if Pixar had opted to make big changes given the work that would have been generated.

Now, despite the fact that the saga seemed to have said goodbye first in its third installment and then in its fourth, Toy Story 5 is already in production after the saga has been extended with animated shorts, a miniseries on Disney+ and even with Lightyear, a spin-off movie.
