Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was originally conceived as one film, but ended up divided into two parts: Rebel Moon (Part One): The Fire Girl and Rebel Moon (Part Two): The Warrior Who Leaves Marks. Beyond these two deliveriesit is not known if the saga will continue, but the protagonist, Sofia Boutellahas shed light about the future of the franchise.
In an interview with The Direct, Boutella was asked if he was already negotiating with Snyder for a third film. “No, not yet. But I do want to say that it would be amazing if you could go find Princess Issa. Because that’s what we say at the end of movie number two, and it’s going to be so fun to get back on set with Zack because we all love being a part of this project,” he stated.
The interpreter also spoke about the possibility of expanding the saga with a series. “Why not? I should read it. Depends on if Netflix does it. Yes, it’s Zack who does it. I am not closed to working and being creative, and especially to play a character like Kora again; “Who knows, maybe,” she dropped.
The reception of both films does not suggest that the franchise will continue. The first part records a rating of the 21% on Rotten Tomatoes and the second part it only reaches 15%so it doesn’t seem like it was a huge success.
However, its audience data has not been entirely negative, since in its first four weeks on Netflix, Rebel Moon (Part One): The Fire Girl reached 73.6 million views and was the most popular movie worldwide for two weeks.
In the interview, Boutella gave details about a key sequence in the film, when Kora fights Atticus. “It was filmed on an inclined stage about 20 meters long.. As we slid, different elements on the stage had to be changed because it was never going to be the same space“, he said.
“Then when you watch the movie, and it’s one continuous scene, It’s pretty mind-blowing because that’s not how we filmed it at all.. But it was something extraordinary,” added the actress.
