Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, movie review (2024)

From its first appearance in theaters in that distant 1968 through Franklin J. Schaffner’s classic until 2024, under the direction of Wes Ball (“The Maze Runner”), the universe of “Planet of the Apes” has managed to survive the passing of the decades (with its ups and downs, and I’m not looking at anyone, eh, Tim Burton), leaving us films with depth and quality – especially the previous trilogy, led by the famous César, which is sustained in the imagination of the public despite the passing of the years.

After the success of the last trilogy, Wes Ball was presented with a difficult task: to live up to it. And did he achieve it? Well, not really at all, although it is possible that the nostalgia factor affects our perspective. What he does manage to do is not disappoint, which is what he does today. This fourth installment or reboot of the franchise is set in the future after Caesar’s reign, with apes as the dominant species, while humans live in the shadows. In this way, the film serves as a bridge between the original film (from which great influences can be seen) and the Caesar trilogy, focusing on the story of Noa and her journey of redemption and Mae (the human point of view of the tape) performed by Freya Allan (“The Witcher”).

As in all the recent films in the saga, the capture of the action and the special effects are absorbing, although the film enhances the most emotional and dramatic part of the story, showing new generations a superb example of cultural appropriation (as seen will see with the figure and speech of the villain of the film) and leaving us with beautiful images.

Maintaining this dilemma and search for coexistence between races, and with the great launch of Freya Allan as a Hollywood star, Wes Ball has managed to overcome the handicap with which he had to keep up with his most recent predecessors, leaving us with a well-cared for blockbuster. worked, which does not seek to surprise, but rather to keep the ape universe alive and as fit as possible.
