The Japanese government, concerned about causing panic, hides the threat from the public. Shikishima and his crew must confront Godzilla in a desperate battle to stop his advance toward Japan. The film explores themes such as war trauma, guilt and redemption, as Godzilla represents the nuclear devastation and despair of post-war Japan.
