Another actor was supposed to play the mutant, but fate would have it that the Australian grew adamantium claws.

I’m the guy who will tell you all the latest news in film and television on 3DJuegos. I’m passionate about science fiction, fantasy, superheroes and film curiosities, those little behind-the-scenes stories of the directors and actors we’ve been following since we were kids. My favorite saga? Star Trek. My favorite character? Superman, although lately a bit more John Wick. One last thing, I promise not to bore you too much with my topics. LinkedIn

Few actors can boast of playing the same character for more than 20 years without the audience seeming to tire of seeing them as such. But Hugh Jackman He has achieved it, and that when he auditioned for Wolverine In that first X-Men movie (2001) he thought he wouldn’t get the role.

And not out of modesty, or because he thought he had done poorly, but because when he auditioned, 20th Century Fox was thinking of another big star to play the adamantium-clawed mutant, Dougray Scott. For various reasons he couldn’t commit and Jackman signed for X-Men.

“A role that I had already closed”

But before that, Jackman had to do his audition, and he had to do it with the feeling that it was going to be a complete waste of time. In his chat with EW, the actor recalls how he read several lines to Bryan Singer (director) with Tom DeSanto (screenwriter) sitting in the corner, seemingly unimpressed. “He just said… ‘Quiet… Lower, lower.’ By the end, I couldn’t even hear myself. It was like he was thinking about what he was doing at lunchtime watching the audition for a role that they already had closed“.

Hugh Jackman finished his audition, convinced that everything was done and that the next thing he was going to do was catch the next flight. But a certain Kevin Feige, who was then a production assistant and had to take care of driving him to the airport, invited him to lunch. “I said, ‘Kevin, we all know I’m not going to get the part. You don’t have to buy me dinner. ‘ But he did, he sat down with me and we had steak and then he drove me to the airport. I will never forget“.

Of course, it’s quite an anecdote considering how more than 20 years later they met again, this time for what will be, unless there’s a surprise, Hugh Jackman’s last meeting with viewers as Wolverine. Deadpool & Wolverine premieres this July 25thX-Men, and other films from 20th Century Fox’s mutant universe, can be seen through Disney+.
