Yes, just yesterday the guitarist Kiko Loureiro extended his absence Megadeth “after deep reflection with Dave Mustaine”it is now the leader of the North American band himself who announces that his formation “will continue with Temmu Mäntysaari” in the face of the prolonged decline of what was his ax for the last nine years.

Last November 20 Mustaine issued a statement that began with the following words: “Hello friends. Last week I received a call from my partner, Kiko Loureiro, and we talked for a while. I asked him how things were going in relation to the important matters that led to his absence on our previous leg of tour, something necessary to be with his family.”.

Mustaine He assured that he shared his guitarist’s decision: “I want to update you now on what Kiko shared with me. But before I do, I want you to know that I love, respect and fully support Kiko’s decision. He has emphasized his love for me, for Megadeth, and for all of you, our fans.”.

The leader of Megadeth He contextualized the situation like this: “As a reminder, Kiko had to leave the tour last August to deal with some very important and private family matters. He was conflicted, but grateful when I told him that he had to go take care of his family. He agreed, but he was still worried about us, meaning the fans and Megadeth. At that moment I told him: “Go away! Kiko, you will never be able to get that time with your family back, I know it first hand… I paid the price myself.” In the end, he accepted”.

Mustaine emphasized how Loureiro He was still worried about the inconvenience it could cause: “Kiko is a top professional, a master, and he didn’t want to hurt me or Megadeth. We came up with a solution to find a replacement for him during that time and that was when he introduced and trained Teemu Mäntysaari to replace us. Initially, it was only going to be until the first week of October 2023. However, things rarely go as planned”.

The vocalist and guitarist confirmed the absence of Loureiro: “The 2023 tour is over, and it has been long and arduous. There was a lot of touring last year, and it looks like 2024 is set to be even more intense, with big touring commitments keeping us on the road for most of the year. We have had many conversations with Kiko about this and they have all been very positive. Kiko will be on an extended leave of absence and due to our heavy touring commitments next year we will be moving forward with Teemu Mäntysaari as Megadeth guitarist.”.

The statement ended with praise for the work of the Brazilian guitarist: “I would like to thank Kiko for his dedication and hard work these last 9 years, helping us achieve a Grammy with ‘Dystopia’ and the additional awards we have received with this latest album ‘The Sick…. The Dying…And The Dead ‘. I couldn’t have done this without Kiko Loureiro. We hope to see you all supporting Kiko in her upcoming works and we want to see you next year at Killing Road. We have exciting plans that we will share with all of you in our next newsletter”.
