A few days ago, the vocalist of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinsoninaugurated a new stage with his first solo concert in more than twenty years, but if the Doncella frontman always stood out for something, it was for his cool head in the face of potentially stressful situations. In this sense, he recently explained to us how to preserve sanity in an environment “very toxic”. Take note, please.

During an intervention on the podcast Appetite For Distortionthey asked Dickinson whether it applied to projects in which different facets within his personality are involved or, on the contrary, everything came from the same type.

This is how it was expressed: “No, everything comes from the same pot. Like any guy… I guess I’m actually like… If I had to make an analogy, it would be like you take me out of the refrigerator and I’m cold as a stone, then you put me in the pot and heat me up to a certain temperature and You say, “Oh yeah, that looks like Maiden’s temperature.” You pour a spoonful into the bowl and it’s Maiden world. And then at the end you put Maiden back in the pot and then she goes back to her normal self, which is lukewarm and boring and ordinary, which is what I am when I’m not running around doing things.”.

TO Dickinson He loves comparisons to explain things: “I like images, analogies and things like that. I explain things a lot in those terms, which is the same way I write songs and music and stuff like that. So I like to talk about the way I approach a concert in a club, then in a theater, a pavilion or a mega stadium where you can’t even see the last person in the audience because it’s too far away… How do you project your personality, If necessary, at such different distances?”.

This is how the vocalist manages: “I say, well, it’s kind of like having a party balloon that’s you, so you’re the little deflated party balloon, but you walk into a club and you go… you don’t have to inflate the balloon much to hit the bottom. of the club, because everyone can see you. And you inflate it a little more for theater, and then a pavilion is like, “Oh, a little more effort there.” And then the big festival comes, and you don’t realize how hard you’ve been blowing up this giant balloon until you come out at the end and you’re absolutely exhausted. And you think: “Why?” Because you’ve been expelling all this energy to try to fill this vast space”.

It is necessary to recover the state before the show: “The problem is that now you walk around with a balloon the size of Texas around your head. So you have to let yourself go somehow so that the balloon just deflates. You have to do it after the show, because if you don’t, you won’t be able to get through any gate in the Western world. Because your balloon is too big”.

According to Brucethis capacity is not exclusive to artists: “Everyone has a small balloon, and everyone is able to inflate it. The thing is, my job is to do it to the extreme. So I treat that globe almost in the third person. I say to myself: “Okay. The big globe is out there, but it’s not really a state to exist in the real world. So I try to deflate it at the end of the show, calm down, and go into a dark corner to hide. But this is how I deal with it, and this is how I hope to have retained some sanity in what can be a very toxic environment for people.”.
