Not long ago, the vocalist of within Temptation, Sharon den Adelhe told us that There were people who were stopping following the band for political positions.. In this sense, the frontwoman has recently spoken about the rise of the extreme right in the Netherlands, a phenomenon that she summarized with these words: “I don’t understand”.
In an interview with Metal Musikast, Sharon responded again about the decision to address thorny topics in his songs such as the war in Ukraine or the suspicious death of Mahsa Aminian Iranian woman detained for not wearing a hijab.
This is how the singer expressed herself: “Well, I think it’s very difficult to separate your music from who you are as a person, of course. And see what is happening in Europe, a Russian invasion of Ukraine. kyiv is only a two-hour flight from my house, so I really feel like this war is happening in my backyard. And seeing the propaganda from Russia, which turns European countries against each other instead of… We are trying to stay united, but the propaganda reaches certain countries, like Slovenia, Hungary and some others”.
Sharon considered that Russian propaganda was behind the rise of extremist options: “Also in our own country this year we have voted, apparently as a country, for the extreme right, which I do not understand. And that party also, yes, has many of the same ideas that exist in other countries that are pro-Russian. I don’t want to say that our country is pro-Russian at all, but I think it was a vote against, that people were not satisfied with the government we have and thought it could be a protest vote”.
The vocalist did not share this kind of punishment of the political class: “To me, that’s pretty stupid. Now, in many countries, people start voting for extreme right-wing parties because they are fed up with the government, with how it was, because, well, things were not perfect, of course, but, on the other hand, starting to vote for the extreme right is something else. But we, as a country, are very supportive of Ukraine, but it is more like the propaganda reaches certain people in our country as well. And that worries me, because I think we should pitch in to help Ukraine”.
