The role that the bassist has been acquiring Robert Trujillo within Metallica has been increasing over the years. In fact, even She debuted as a singer in a song on the album “72 Seasons”. But the current person in charge of the four strings with the men in black also remembers his first concerts with those from San Francisco, an experience that he summarized in the following way: “I was like swimming with the pressure of the show”.

In an interview with Nikki Blakk from The Bone on 107.7, Trujillo evoked those first recitals at The Fillmore in San Francisco in 2003 that presented the album ‘St. Anger and that they arrived a few weeks after he joined the band.

This is specifically how he remembered them: “What I remember most about 2003 is that I didn’t know what the setlist was going to be each night. It was like very free. And I don’t know if it was on purpose or we were so overwhelmed or Lars was so overwhelmed that he couldn’t tell me exactly what we were going to play. So I was learning songs like “Phantom Lord” on the fly. And it had been a long time since they played “Phantom Lord.” There was all this energy around me and my head was swimming with the pressure of the show, the pressure of being the new bassist, but also the pressure of having to learn a song first thing in the afternoon on the day we were going to play it.”.

At that time, many things were happening in the life of Trujillo: “Metallica’s songs are a challenge, but also, I think that around that same time, we were playing in the legendary San Quentin prison. Many things were happening at the same time. It was something like: “Welcome to your new life.” You have to learn, adapt and do the best you can, and that was the case at that show at the Fillmore. I got to work, and when I caught up a couple years later, I said, “I’m going to do everything I can to learn songs that we’re not even playing and that aren’t even on the radar. I’m going to learn “Orion”. I’m going to learn “Dyers Eve.” I don’t like being on the edge, having to learn songs in a day or something like that. So I found a way to update myself”.

The men in black, precisely, will return to our country with the presentation of the ’72 Seasons’ album in Madrid. This will occur in the summer of 2024 with the two appointments that will take place on the days July 12 and 14 in it Madrid Metropolitan Stadiumwith Architects and Mammoth WVH on the first day and Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills in the second. Tickets are on sale at LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.es.
