The fans of 80’s pop rock Last weekend they were finally able to see the 4 chapters of the long-awaited documentary Thank you, good night: the story of Bon Jovi, which in Colombia can be seen on Star+, the series provides unique access to the epic past and turn to the uncertain future of one of the most identifiable bands in the world and its leader, Jon Bon Jovi.

And it is, in the words of the New Jersey vocalist, “the definitive documentary of the band”, just to celebrate 40 years of career.

“A 40-year odyssey of rock and roll on the brink as a vocal injury threatens to abruptly end it all.”

That is the issue that has left Bon Jovi’s followers uneasy after showing, in detail, the vocal problems that its leader, now 62 years old, faces today. “The series meets the band in February 2022 and accompanies them in real time and in all their ups and downs, while they try to plan their future. The story of a unique talent is exciting, but what is most extraordinary is that a legend like Jon Bon Jovi shows himself to the world in his most vulnerable moments while he is going through them,” the review says.

The documentary shows the final part of that 2022 tour in which an exhausted Jon Bon Jovi shows how his voice is not 100% of its powers for what it means to sing live, he also contracted covid that same year, a situation that affected his health. When you are losing your voice, The singer consulted with a doctor who performed surgery on his vocal cords that same 2022 and it is not yet known if he will return to the stage.

“If the next stage is to say goodbye, there is no shame,” he said in the documentary. “I loved my last album, I loved the last concert. All my work speaks of everything I hoped for, the experiences with the band members, it is something I feel blessed for. So if it’s time to change course, it wasn’t bad.”

In interviews that have been released after the documentary, Bon Jovi says he’s taking it day by day and continuing to work hard to try to make a comeback. “Before traveling here to California, for these interviews, I was in vocal therapy. Nothing more matters than working to improve. It’s already a God thing at this point, I’ve done everything I can,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

The documentary summarizes forty years of personal videos, old unreleased demos, original lyrics and never-before-seen photos They give an account of his career from the clubs of the coast of New Jersey, United States, to the biggest stages in the world. The wear and tear is also evident and this is reflected in the years in which Bon Jovi, as a band, did not stop, performing up to 240 concerts per year.

Such has been the success of the series which is number one in some countries (including Colombia) and this is how the artist celebrates it.

”The documentary series relives his triumphs and his setbacks, his greatest successes, his most tremendous disappointments and the moments of friction that became more public,” such as the departure of guitarist Richie Sambora and the disappointments they experienced years after that breakup.

This documentary is produced by Religion of Sports (ROS), the company that works with high-end athletes on sports documentaries. Bon Jovi himself was the one who contacted them for this project. It is directed by Gotham Chopra, winner of multiple Emmy Awards. and in production are the Argentine Giselle Parets and Ameeth Sankaran on behalf of ROS.

Each chapter lasts at least an hour (there is one, the second, one hour and 33 minutes) and it was Bon Jovi himself who immersed himself in telling everything in the documentary. “When working with high-profile athletes and artists, ego always gets in the way and there are many levels of people to deal with until you actually get to your subject. With Jon it was not the case, he is a person who picks up the phone and calls you if he has a question,” producer Giselle Parets told Rolling Stone magazine.
