John Corabi and Mick Mars

More than thirty years have passed since John Corabi will become part of the history of Motley Cruewhere he had to play the complicated role of frontman in the position of an icon like Vince Neilleaving a bittersweet memory for fans, but a lot of stories that continue to resonate today, such as the one that talks about the attempt to recruit a guitarist from Ozzy Osbourne to replace Mick Mars decades ago and how the band had another guitarist who has been active in Guns N’ Roses in the last few years before the break that broke with the new stage of the band.

A recent episode of “Talk Louder” podcast has had Corabi as a guest, and the curiosity to know how the vocalist predicted that Mick Mars would leave the lineup has led to an extensive response that covers a good part of Mötley Crüe’s history, starting with the assumption that he will be criticized no matter what he says about the band: “This is the little quagmire I have to deal with, and I expect it, because in the grand scheme of things, what put me on the map was Mötley Crüe. I get it. And it seems like every time they do something, they ask me So in an interview, someone said, “Hey, buddy, what do you think of these Mötleys…” and I said, “Next question. I will not answer. I have nothing to say”.

Well, that video came out, and then I started getting messages on Facebook and Instagram: “Oh, you ungrateful asshole. You can’t talk about Mötley Crüe.” So I said, “Okay. Well, you know what? I’m going to answer.” Now if I reply to anything, all the comments are like, “Does this motherfucker have nothing to talk about other than Mötley Crüe?” He was in the band for five minutes and he was a loser.’ And I said, ‘Fuck it.'”

Corabi recalls that he did not believe the first version of the Mars withdrawal news: “Someone asked me a question when I was in London when my book came out. I was signing a book and there was a live audience asking me questions. And that statement had just come out, the one from Mötley, and it said, ‘Mick is retiring.’ Let’s continue with John 5“, and blah, blah, blah. And all I said was, “I’ll believe that statement when Mick makes it public.” The statement we’ve been given has come from Mötley and their manager. This seems more like a damage control thing. that… I won’t believe a word of it until Mick releases the statement.”

And then someone asked me another question and said, “Well, why do you think that? I’m pretty sure it’s common knowledge.” I don’t think I’ve clarified anything to anyone, because even Mick has said that making the album ‘Generation Swine’ It was the most miserable and screwed time of his life and Tommy (Lee) and Nikki (Sixx) and (the producer) Scott Humphrey “They literally got into Mick’s mind and made him feel like he wasn’t a good guitarist.”

The vocalist continues his story from that recording of the 1997 album: “At that point, they had told me that Vince was coming back. We wrote a lot of those songs a year before. Vince was going to come back, but the manager had asked me to help them finish the record. So I said, ‘Okay.’ They called me almost every day at 9:30, 10 o’clock, and it was Tommy, Nikki and Scott asking me to come to the studio early because they had Mick in the studio the night before and they were disappointed because they couldn’t get anything out of him. .

So I said, “Yes, I’ll go and play, but only if Mick is okay with it.” They said, “Yes, that’s fine with him. We’ve already talked to him.” OK. Brilliant. I went, and Mick will tell you this too: probably eighty percent of the guitars on ‘Generation Swine’ were played by me. “So I know they weren’t happy with Mick during ‘Generation Swine.'”

John continues listing stages to reinforce his theory that the band wanted to change guitarists for a long time, this time alluding to the former Guns N’ Roses guitarist. DJ Ashba: “I don’t know who played guitar on ‘New Tattoo’… I don’t know who played on that record, but I can tell you that, after that, they made several new songs for the compilation ‘Red, White & Crue’ and it was DJ Ashba who was on guitar. They made “Saints Of Los Angeles”, also with DJ Ashba on guitar. And when they made the soundtrack for “The Dirt”, there was John 5″.

Corabi goes even further back, to the legendary Mötley Crüe tour with Ozzy Osbourne when the Madman had Jake E. Lee as guitarist: “As you have all seen, Bob Daisley declared: “Dude, when they came on the tour ‘Bark At The Moon’, They were trying to get Jake E. Lee to join their band. Get rid of Mick and get Jake in. So I’m not telling anyone anything new. This has all been in the press. Mick has stated things about him. album ‘Generation Swine’ There was a big dispute between Tracii Guns and Nikki Sixx when they were doing (the project) Brides Of Destruction. “I was angry because they hired DJ Ashba and not him.”

The vocalist insists that everything he says can be used against him: “So I didn’t say anything new to anyone, but it was funny, when I said it, everyone was like, ‘Dude, you’re full of shit.’ You don’t know what you’re talking about. Mick’s sick.” And I’m like, “Oh, okay. We’ll see.” And I have to admit, the morning that news broke that Mick was suing them, my phone started blowing up: “Oh, hey, buddy. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I said that.” And I wasn’t gloating or anything, I didn’t give a shit. I really don’t give a shit.

If you ask me a question, I’ll give you an honest answer. But I don’t give a shit either way. That’s their news, that’s their dirty laundry that they have to clean up. But it was funny. They criticize me all the time. It doesn’t matter what you say, what you do. Regarding Mötley, I’m going to be the asshole. Whatever”.
