The Bahrain-Victorious team is prepared to face the 2024 Giro d’Italia, the first grand tour of the year and a test that promises to be as demanding as ever. The 107th edition of the `Corsa Rosa begins on the outskirts of Turin this Saturday and will travel 3,400 kilometers in 21 stages, ending in front of Rome’s famous Colosseum on Sunday, May 26.

This year’s route, although shorter and with fewer climbs in total than in previous editions, is still challenging with two time trials and more than 44,650 meters of positive elevation gain. The last seven days will be very tough, with five of the most demanding stages.

Antonio Tiberi, who makes his Giro d’Italia debut, will lead the Bahrain-Victorious team after having won the youth classification in the Alps Tour and shown impressive performances in time trials in recent months. “This is my first Giro, so as an Italian cyclist, I am really living a dream,” Tiberi mentioned. At his side will be the experienced Damiano Caruso, road captain and former stage winner, who will make his seventh appearance in the Italy spinhaving finished second in 2021 and fourth last year.

Phil Bauhaus will be the team’s sprinter, looking to add a grand tour stage to his record, which includes a win last month in Tyrrhenian-Adriatic. Jasha Stterlin and Andrea Pasqualon will be crucial in their launch and also in supporting the general leaders on the flat stages.

The sports director in Italy, Gorazd Tangelj, highlighted that the race will be intense from the beginning: “We started strong from day 1. And day 2. Then stage 3 is clearly for a sprint. After that, everything is more open. “You can lose precious time from the beginning, so we need to be in the right place and bet on the overall from Saturday.”

The queen stage will be stage 15, just before the second day of rest, being also the longest stage and with more than 5,000 meters of positive gradient. Edoardo Zambanini, Torstein Trn and Rainer Kepplinger will provide the necessary support in the mountain stages.

Tangelj concluded: “We dream of a podium with Antonio or Damiano, but we will have to see how things develop day by day. Anything can happen and concentration is needed from the beginning. We have a team to fight for a victory every day” .
