Granma debuts with final hexagonal knockout of pioneer baseball

With a 10×0 knockout over Matanzas, the Granma team began today the hexagonal final of the National Pioneer Baseball Championship (11-12 years old), which takes place in the city of Bayamo until next Saturday.

The Granma team needed only five hits and four errors from the rival defense to score 10 runs in five innings and support the work of right-hander Fabián Salcedo, who ultimately won the match.

At the Manuel Alarcón Reina baseball stadium, the main venue of the contest, Karel Torres and Alfredo Despaigne Jr led the attack of the winners, with two RBIs per capita.

Meanwhile, Havana beat Ciego de Ávila 9×2 with five home runs and, in the Hermanos Blanco, Sancti Spíritus also knocked out Cienfuegos 10×0, with an offensive of 11 hits.

The locals will face the Avilanians, this Tuesday, in the first game of the day and then Cienfuegos and Matanzas will clash; Meanwhile, in a duel of the undefeated, residents of the capital and Sancti Spiritus will measure forces in the second venue of the tournament.

The tournament is played by the round-robin system until Friday and, the next day, the third and fourth place holders will fight for the bronze medals and the first two will fight for the title.
