recognizing a Palestinian state is “perverse”

(CNN) — Israel’s Foreign Ministry summoned and “reprimanded” the ambassadors of Ireland, Spain and Norway for their countries’ decision to recognize Palestine as a state, a ministry spokesman said.

“The director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (May 23) reprimanded the ambassadors of Ireland, Spain and Norway, showed them the video of the observatories” and told them that “the twisted decision of their governments is a reward for Hamas . Hamas congratulates them for this,” he said in a statement. “The decision will have serious additional consequences for our relations with their countries.”

The spokesman said the director-general had told ambassadors that his country’s decision was “perverse,” saying that “recognition of a Palestinian state is a reward for terrorism.”

“The director general emphasized that the recognition of their governments does not favor peace and gives a boost to Hamas and makes it even more difficult to promote an agreement for the release of the hostages,” the spokesperson added.
