The subject thus joins Francisco Ignacio Mondaca Mella, the 22-year-old volunteer from the 13th Valparaíso George Mustakis Dragonas Fire Company who was arrested this day by the PDI for his connection to the case.

Both will go to detention control this Saturday.

The first arrest

During this day, the arrest of Francisco Ignacio Mondaca Mella, 22 years old, was announced for his participation in the origin of the fire that began on February 2 in the Valparaíso Region.

The detainee was working as a volunteer 13th Valparaíso Fire Company George Mustakis Dragonas and had been honored by his company a few weeks ago for completing 12 months as an active firefighter.

Mondaca was arrested during the afternoon at the barracks located on Cardenal Samoré Street, in the Placilla de Peñuelas sector of the Port City.

The criminal analysis work of detectives Investigative Brigade of Crimes Against the Environment and Cultural Heritage (Bidema) of the PDI together with the Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office, it allowed the suspect to be identified and arrested.

For his part, the specialized fire prosecutor of Valparaíso, Osvaldo Ossandóngave details this afternoon of how Mondaca was identified as the alleged author of the fire.

Within the proceedings, The Public Ministry requested “intrusive measures” from the Valparaíso Guarantee Court those who were able to determine the identity of the suspect. Between these, access to cameras, road identification, telephone monitoring and interceptions, With which they finally managed to identify the alleged perpetrator and reconstruct his route, requesting the Court this day for an arrest warrant.

“The man was arrested today and with the discovery of the elements in his home, with which this fire started and the possibility of his participation in other previous fires, which are also part of our investigation, is being investigated. investigation,” said prosecutor Ossandón.
