The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, defended the creation of artificial intelligence (AI) from the Global South to compete with rich countries.

“The ILO [la Organización Internacional del Trabajo] “has the obligation to work together with the UN and the countries so that we build an artificial intelligence project that is from the Global South,” said the president in a speech before the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva (Switzerland).

Lula explained that the idea is to “compete with the richest countries, which by creating artificial intelligence They try to manipulate the rest of humanity“.

“The cunning of some companies”

The leftist president assured that it is necessary to act so that the benefits of this technology, called to radically change the labor market, reach everyone and not “just the same countries that always get the best.”

“Artificial intelligence is nothing more than the cunning of some companies that accumulate all the data of all human beings […] without paying a single cent to the people,” said Lula, who considered “a revolutionary task to try to change this situation.”

The Brazilian president also insisted that the super-rich should pay more taxes to combat inequality.

Furthermore, he asserted that developing countries should have greater weight in international organizations such as the ILO itself.
