The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked Cuba for its decision to join the procedure initiated by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued here, the Foreign Ministry recognized the willingness of the Antillean nation to participate as a Third State in South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel before the ICJ and to expose the transgression of the Genocide Convention before the main judicial body of the United Nations.

This decision exemplifies Cuba’s firm commitment to the international rule of law, and underscores the deep-rooted solidarity and historic friendship between our nations, he noted.

South Africa asked the ICJ to take measures to hold Israel to cease operations in the Gaza Strip, allow the delivery of supplies to the Palestinians and be held accountable for its actions.

In Havana, a statement from the Foreign Ministry expressed that this demand “has as its main objective to stop the atrocities against the Palestinian people as a result of the disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force by Israel.”
