In recent days, a shocking NASA satellite photo captured the magnitude of the snowstorm that is hitting Patagonia, an unusual phenomenon that surprised everyone in this region. This unprecedented image shows the extent and intensity of the snowfall, reflecting a winter that stands out for its strength and unique beauty.

The image was taken on Saturday, July 6, 2024 and released by the Government of Santa Cruz. According to reports, it reflects the intense snowfall that has been occurring for several days in our country, affecting the provinces of Patagonia.

They also show that approximately 70% of the surface of the province of Santa Cruz is covered with snowan area equivalent to the surface of Córdoba. These intense snowfalls have affected towns, areas and sheep and cattle.

Santa Cruz: actions and efforts to combat the cold wave

In mid-June, the Patagonian region began to experience an intense storm that affected the provinces of Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego, Chubut, Río Negro and Neuquén, with intense cold and snow.

As the days went by, the weather became more severe and generated a new phenomenon of intense cold and snowfall last week, especially in the Santa Cruz region. This caused a series of inconveniences not only for driving on roads and highways but also causing great losses in the productive sector.

In light of this situation, the Provincial Government activated a series of actions that are now reflected in the arrival of food shipments via a Hercules aircraft from Buenos Aires; the presence of the Emergency Operations Committee; the permanent monitoring of provincial and national routes; and the recent acquisition of more than one million one hundred thousand kilos of fodder to assist producers in Santa Cruz; the purchase of firewood, and the recent declaration of the Climate Emergency, among others.
