A piety mantle fell on Congress. The death of Pope Francis imposed an institutional truce that deactivated, for now, the libertarian offensive in the Senate. The blocks of the ruling party and the opposition agreed to meet next Thursday, not to discuss laws or exhibit forces, but to pay tribute to Jorge Bergoglio. The clean file project – along with other initiatives – was suspended until May 7. The week promised to be explosive: the interpellation of four executive officials, the beginning of the investigative commission for the crypto -scandal and the progress of the project that threatens to take Cristina Fernández de Kirchner was expected. Both cameras achieved transverse agreements to honor the maximum exponent of the Catholic Church and postpone the debates. The new Senate schedule complicates government plans to outline the former president.

But, as this newspaper was able to rebuild, the ruling party did not give rise to the request and the questions multiplied. Again, the allies accused the government of “getting the law.”
The agenda in deputies
In the lower house, the tribute to the Pope passed without crosses between the blocks, although there was no lack of questions to the official delegation that will travel to Rome to participate in Francisco’s funeral. The focus of criticism was the absence of parliamentary representation: although President Javier Milei will be accompanied by eight members of the Executive Power, no legislator will be part of the delegation.
The political truce open for this week will have an end point next Tuesday, when the interpellation of four executive officials is expected: the chief of cabinet, Guillermo Francos – who avoided referring to the cryptophawish scandal during his latest management report; the Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona; the head of the National Securities Commission, Roberto Silva; and the Minister of Economy, Luis “Toto” Caputo, who already sounds as a candidate to be absent.
Wednesday will be the turn of the first meeting of the investigating commission for the Libra Gate. With 28 members and a surgical parity between ruling and opposition, the interbloque war opened the door to a premeditated paralysis promoted by the president of the Chamber, Martín Menem. However, the afternoon of Good Friday left a surprise: the radical Soledad Carrizo – who was told among the 14 deputies that support the ruling party – unmarked the libertarian strategy.
