Asunción, May 3 (EFE) .- The Foreign Ministers of Paraguay, Rubén Ramírez, and Argentina, Gerardo Werthein, addressed issues such as infrastructure, border crossings and the importance of maintaining an “open and fluid” dialogue during a bilateral encounter on the sidelines of the Mercosur Foreign Minister.
This was reported this Saturday in a statement by the Foreign Ministry of Paraguay, in account of the meeting held this Friday, in which the officials addressed, according to the note, “priority issues of the bilateral agenda.”
Among others, “they highlighted the importance of analyzing the viability of infrastructure works to consolidate greater physical and energy integration, as well as the streamlining of border crossings,” the information explained.
They also expressed their interest in encouraging projects linked to the bioceanic corridor, a road that will link southern Brazil, on the Atlantic Ocean, with the positions of Antofagasta, Mussels and Iquique, in the Pacific, “as a key factor in improving regional connectivity and generating opportunities for economic and social development” of the countries, the text added.
The dialogue between Ramírez and Werthein had as a framework the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the South Mercado (Mercosur), in which the block composed of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia, in the process of full accession, agreed to “prioritize and promote external negotiations with commercially relevant countries for all partners during the second semester of the current year”, according to a joint statement.
During the meeting – which, according to the note, passed in an “cordiality and trust climate” – there was a “commitment of the States parties to the strengthening and unity of Mercosur, as well as its determination to modernize it, before an international situation that is presented dynamic, challenging and characterized by a substantive change in international trade.” EFE
