Lola Álvarez was part of those first promotions of Fine Arts, where everything was to do. Academic and artistic merged from a … educational vision In a crazy world for creation and originality, she was what we did not know how to be many times: serene, full, prudent and firm in her career. Professor of Didactics of Plastic Expression, that name with dyes of the Women’s Section that we have inherited in a more audiovisual and digital area, was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education and director of one of the most numerous departments of our university, with activity in Granada, Ceuta and Melilla. His international vocation began with his knowledge of the Getty Foundation, in the United States, following the trace of the seal and the Elliot W. Eisner school, one of our reference authors. From there, he respected and defended the artistic and creative research methodologies, champion of his teacher and mentor, the professor Ricardo Marín, whom he adored, in what was friendship and respect for decades. However, his vision of the teaching of the arts of traced from the amplitude of views, through the specialization in educational technologies and, above all, in mediation in museums, that field of non -formal education that has always been so difficult to address.
Involved in her family and personal project, which she never neglected, her husband, Fidel, her daughters, Lola, Blanca and Isabel, represent, even in difficult times, that culture of serenity and of doing things well, a style that the master’s and doctorate students always perceived. It combined seriousness, in good sense, with compression, together with the strategic vision of what had to be done and the sense of humor in the extreme situations to which our stressful and bureaucratized university world leads us. To his intellectual work added the continuous task of turning off fires. They consulted complex issues from any Spanish university.
In recent years, he knew how to get involved and lead the project in defense of the arts in education, being the founder of a vindictive platform in networks and, subsequently, of the Society for Artistic Education (SEA), in which he replaced Marián López Fernández Cao as president of the Complutense University. He achieved a review of the legislative changes by dozens and hundreds of professionals involved, in addition to enhancing the interlocution with the institutions, including the ministry. A struggle that, of course, we will continue. Lola Álvarez has died too young, and the samples of surprise and pain multiply from all areas in which she has left her mark, which have been many, with messages from different countries and with a project that must follow, and that implies a humanistic sense and a transformative vision of artistic education. Your attentive listens will remain in our memory, your analytical precision of each difficulty and, above all, your example in the human and academic.
