An Italian businesswoman has been involved in a good mess for selling a picture on the Internet. He acquired it for about 30 euros, sent it with all the good faith of the world and now claim compensation of more than 50,000. The reason? The painting shows the face of a famous actress, captured in a mythical film scene, and her heirs have denounced her for violating copyright and damaging the artist’s image.
The events occurred in early 2024 in the Assisi area, as reported by the Corriere dell’Umbria. The young woman, who now has the defense of the lawyer Gian Marco Abeltino, received an online order from that small decorative picture. He charged the amount without problems, processed the shipment and set the operation settled.
Soon he closed his business temporarily for personal reasons. It was not until a few weeks ago, when returning to activity and review the certified email for the first time, when the scare was carried. There he found a formal summons of the Ordinary Court of Perugia. He thought it was a scam, even a heavy joke, because it was not explained how a sale of just 30 euros could end with such a figure at stake.
After rereading documents calmly and looking for information on his own, he discovered that the matter was serious. The heirs of the actress have launched a civil demand. They claim that the businesswoman has violated the intellectual property law, in addition to causing economic and moral damage to the memory of the interpreter. They demand compensation that far exceeds 50,000 euros, although the product sold was not an official reproduction or advertised with the name of the artist.
eg Cathern, this type of land is “especially delicate” and demand a lot of caution, legal checks and a good dose of common sense, because an oversight is enough to end a lawsuit in the courts, although it has acted in good faith.
