Woodson began his journey through the benches of the League in 1996, although it was not until 2004 when he got his first position as chief coach in the Atlanta Hawks, which he would direct for six seasons. Later, he would make the leap to New York to become a Knicks coach between 2012 and 2014, achieving in 2013 that until 2023 was the first victory in a Round of playoffs of the franchise in the 21st century.
Since his departure, however, he has not achieved a main coach position in the League, although he did have periods as assistant in the clippers and the Knicks themselves. This led to 2021 becoming the coach of the University of Indiana, in which he formed himself, since he occupied until this same year.
