Raúl Ruiz changed his life a cup tie. Literally. He played in Numancia and the Canal+ journalists who covered that crossing against Barça de Cruyff, in 1996, saw that this often and charismatic player had something. He explained himself well before the cameras, he had grace and self -confidence and was not scary. Michael Robinson signed him without hesitation.
Until that day, Ruiz had been the perfect exemplier of ‘currant’ of football. He had traveled Media Spain playing in modest teams (Achievements, Melilla to meet military service, Palencia, Gandía, Benidorm, Girona and Lugo), with certain Problems to reach the end of the month and negotiating (logically without representative) with leaders who did not always fulfill what was promised.
Ruiz collects in ‘The seasons of my life’ all those moments. It is a pleasure to know firsthand how that ‘undecoring’ of the eighties and nineties: another world, another era.
