Mexico City.- Diego Boneta He had tired of Hollywood’s obsession with drug stories for Latinos. So the actor decided that he would provide new material with his debut novel, which is published on Thursday, a self -denominated “mystery of murder, sexual thriller” set around a fictitious business dynasty.
The actor said: “As someone who is from Mexico City, seeing all these stories that are Mexican, most have been about drug traffickers or border crossings. And that is part of our culture.
But it is just this, “he said, gesturing to indicate that he represents a small part of Mexico.” So why don’t we show the other things? “Boneta, known for playing the Latin pop icon Luis Miguel in the Netflix biographical series of 2018 and for co -star Alejandro Velasco “).
The Amazon Crossing book is published in English and is available in Spanish in digital and audio formats. It is also programmed for a television adaptation. Boneta, 34, who is also a producer and musician, commented: “I feel weird saying that I am an author.
I feel that I am a storyteller. It’s the most personal I have done, so it’s really close to my heart. ”
The novel focuses on a mysterious man named Julian Villarreal, who intends to resolve the mystery behind the sudden death of his friend and rival of Alejandro. Julian faces unexpected turns thanks to the wealth and business ties of the Velasco family.
Boneta said: “It’s something like ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley´ is mixed with ´Match Point´, set in San Miguel de Allende, full of plot turns.”
Boneta states that he wanted to set the novel in San Miguel de Allende to show a different side from Mexico to the public. He grew up visiting his family in that historic city and says it is the “Florence of Mexico.”
“I really wanted him to feel as if I came from my heart. So I had to write about things that really passionate to me, and San Miguel is one of them,” he said. “It’s truly a magical town.”
Boneta did not plan to add author to his attributes list, until his sister and producer partner, Natalia GonzálezBoneta, suggested that they created their own intellectual property.
Boneta will play Julian in the adaptation of the series for Amazon Studios MGM, which is currently under development.
The actor and his team developed the novel and the series together, although they paused in the series during the Hollywood strikes of 2023. Boneta says he created the character to challenge himself by taking the story to the screen.
