I spent several days visiting the International Book Fair of Bogotá that this year passes from April 25 to May 11 with a great offer of known, rare and curious exhibitors and books that, otherwise, would not have access to most of them. This is the case, for example, of university editions in all branches of knowledge, and if they are achieved in trade it would be at astronomical prices. In addition, a friend told me, in that event is known, distinguished and managed to alternate with personalities of national life that would otherwise have access to them: politicians, actors, writers, poets, columnists, bankers, entrepreneurs, magistrates, academics, booksellers, valuable, reinserted, etc.
It was pleasant to find friends and stands from the beginning: Rodrigo Llano Isaza, of the Colombian Academy of History -ach- and Reicol; José Asunción Suárez Niño, of the Santander Society of Colombia; Camilo Gutiérrez Jaramillo, academic secretary of the ACH; Jorge Meléndez Sánchez, prolific historian Nortesantandereano; Volmar Pérez Ortíz, former fender of the town, and many others who live in the capital or moved from Cúcuta, such as Edwin Avendaño Guevara and Luis Hernando Durán Antolínez, respectively. By the way, last Saturday, with the academic José Asunción Suárez Niño, we presented at the University of Colombia the book “La Gran Colombia. Francisco de Paula Santander and Juan Nepomuceno Moreno”, of the lawyer and academic Boyacense Antonio José Rivadeneira Vargas, who died last September. In the presentation I ask José Asunción Suárez Niño, Tataranieto del General Santander, what is the novelty of this book? He answers that the author was a great Bolivarian, since he was president of the International Federation of Bolivarian Societies, and ended his days leaving us this work on Santander. By the way, this afternoon, at 4:00 pm, at the Academy of History we will hold a solemn statutory session open to the public to commemorate the 185 years of the death of General Santander. I want to tell the case of the young Pamplona architect Juan Sebastián Vivas Guarín, with a permanent presence in the stand of Norte de Santander -Pahallón 6, Level 2, Stand 552-, who attracted my attention with “hellohand”, an ingenious playful-educational tool that transcends the idea of a simple game and takes its strength from the expression “Hello-gum!” Colombian. More than a simple learning method, it is established as an educational tool with the noble mission of connecting cultures through language. His proposal is ambitious and fascinating: cultivating the understanding of ten international languages and five native languages, including linguistic treasures such as the Yucatecan Maya, Guaraní and Quechua. Seeing how this initiative begins to take root in the city’s schools is a true reason for illusion, promoting respect for rich linguistic diversity and opening windows to a global world for our young people. In Filbo 2025, Norte de Santander exhibits this proposal as a living testimony of the youth potential that blooms in the region. The effort and dedication of Juan Sebastián, his determination for showing his creation to the world, deserve without a doubt incentive, recognition, visibility, support and a generous stimulus. Everything, thanks to the support of the Public Library “Julio Pérez Ferrero” that facilitated the stage.
